JTooler started in 2026 from a simple frustration: the internet is full of free online tools, but most are either crippled behind paywalls ("you can only merge 2 PDFs per day unless you upgrade"), slowed down by intrusive ads, or fundamentally untrustworthy with your data. The idea was to build the tools people actually need, keep them free, respect their privacy, and hold them to the same quality bar as paid alternatives.

How We Build & Verify Tools

Every calculator and file tool on JTooler follows the same quality process. This is the "how" behind why you can trust the answers you get from this site:

  1. Formulas are verified against authoritative sources. Math-based tools (like the Percentage Calculator) are cross-referenced against standard textbook formulas before shipping. Financial tools (like the Tip Calculator) follow industry conventions — e.g., tips calculated on the pre-tax subtotal, which matches how the hospitality industry actually operates.
  2. Edge cases are tested explicitly. For every calculator, we test with negative numbers, decimals, zero, very large values (millions), and invalid inputs before release. Divide-by-zero returns a clean em-dash, not NaN. Negative starting values in percentage change use absolute-value math so the sign stays intuitive. These behaviors are documented in the source, not accidents.
  3. Privacy is structural, not a promise. The majority of tools — including every calculator, the PDF merger, and all image and text utilities — run entirely inside your browser using client-side JavaScript. Your data never touches our servers because there is no server code to reach. When a tool does require server processing (Office document conversion, OCR, and a few others), files are transmitted over HTTPS, held in memory for the duration of the request, and deleted the moment the response is sent.

When a user surfaces an edge case we missed or a UX friction we didn't anticipate, we update the tool and refresh that date. This is the opposite of "fire and forget" content — tools on this site are continuously maintained, not abandoned after launch.
  5. All explanations, FAQs, and worked examples are written by a human. We don't use AI-generated fluff to pad word counts. Every FAQ answer, every use-case description, every worked example on this site is drafted and reviewed directly by Jihad Hassan. If something reads oddly, that's a real person to email about it.
